U14 v Bishop's Stortford College

U14 A
Result: Lost 23-16
Match report: After a defeat by Framlingham in their last match, the U14 A team came out with enthusiasm to meet Bishop Stortford.  The start of the match saw the two teams pretty evenly matched, with BS 3 goals ahead at the end of the first quarter. However, the second and third quarters saw some excellent shooting and centre court play by the BS girls, accompanied by some careless errors and poor passing by Felsted.  This lead to BS being 20-10 up going into the final quarter.
Felsted's defence came out firing in the last quarter and some excellent interceptions from Molly McGuckian, Sophie Cuthbert and Rachael Freedman meant that Felsted started to pull back.  However, solid shooting from BS meant that they maintained their lead to the finish.
From this match Felsted will be working on their passing and set plays to return to winning form.

U14 B
Result: Lost 32-9
Match report: Our first loss. Our hopes for an undefeated season collapsed today as we faced the mighty U14 B squad of Bishop Stortford. All of their team played with a determination, yet in the third and fourth quarter we made them work hard for their victory.
Harriet Lathwell intercepted particularly well and her efforts were much appreciated by all of the squad, so much so that she was acknowledged as Man of the Match. Immy Hewing-Powell encouraged the team with her positive vibes from the goal area and led the team through some tactical strategies inbetween quarters. Hopefully, we can use this match as a learning curve and improve on certain skills for our Haileybury match on Saturday. Otherwise a fighting attitude from all my girls - well done!
Star Player: L32-9

U14 C
Result: Lost 27-5
Match report: Bishop's Stortford gave an excellent performance today and were just too strong for the Felsted girls. After the first three or four minutes, Bishop's Stortford had scored five goals and things were not looking great for the away team. Although the opposition went on to score four more before the break, Felsted also won two back, ending the first quarter at 9-2. Next, Felsted scored one more, but Bishop's Stortford were storming ahead and the half ended 13-3. However, there was still all to play for and the girls came back for the second half with spirits still high and plenty of enthusiasm. Unfortunately, the strong passing and speed of the Bishop's Stortford team meant that Felsted struggled to get possession of the ball and to find space when they did have it. Felsted did score one more goal and there were a few excellent interceptions and passes throughout, but today was Bishop Stortford’s day – well done to them.

1st VII v Bishop's Stortford

Result: Lost 33-16
Review :On Tuesday, the 1st VII girls played Bishop's Stortford College, one of our biggest
competitors. The first two quarters were extremely end to end with both teams playing very well through the court.  At half time the score was 15-11 to BSC and Felsted were in high spirits and determined to make a few turn overs. Unfortunately in the third quarter, BSC made a number of changes which led to their dynamics changing and they broke away and carried a strong lead which was hard to catch in the last quarter. At no point did Felsted give up, the defence fought hard until the final whistle and the shooters were fed some amazing balls in the circle by our mid court to only lose the last quarter by one goal.  Katie McGukian and Alice Schneidau both played well in their debut match for the 1st VII. BSC voted player of the match Megan Powell and the final score ended 33-16.

2nd VII v Bishop's Stortford College

Result: Won 19-10

Match report: The second VII still remain the only unbeaten senior side this term and once again they played an amazing game of netball against a very strong BSC side. Defensively Georgia Long, Hannah Coward-Whittaker, jasmine King and Maddie Smith made some great intercepts and turned the ball over numerous times. This put BSC under immense pressure and really unnerved their shooting pair. Through the court the ball was transferred swiftly and accurately and the feeding from Mollie Stonham, Hattie Holmes and Lizzie Went was awesome! Our shooters too had a great game and Hayley Young GA was nominated by BSC as player of the match. A brilliant score girls – bring on Haileybury on Saturday!

U14 C v Framlingham

Result: Won 9-8
Match report: A much more challenging match this time but the girls rose to it and overcame some very able opposition. In the first half Felsted nudged ahead but had lost their lead by half time following a strong quarter from Framlingham, However, the Felsted team drew on their determination and competitive spirit and started the final quarter with a three goal lead. It was a nail-biting finish to the match with Framlingham scoring two in the final quarter, but we managed to hang on. A fantastic team performance with the defence having to work hard to mark Framlingham’s strong GA and the attacking team having to out-pace quick opponents.

2nd VII v Framlingham

Result: Won 30-16
Review: The 2nd VII had the only victory of the senior teams against Framlingham on Saturday. From the start the squad played with great determination and secured a good lead at the end of the first quarter (8-3). The attacking play was superb with some fast moves through the court by Alice Schneidau, Lizzie Went and Charlotte Volf, and some brilliant creativity in the circle ensuring that the ball was always received close to the post. This was so advantageous in high winds and both our shooters (Pip Keir and Hayley Young) shot very accurately all game. Defensively, Felsted made it very difficult for Framlingham to reach their circle with some brilliant intercepts being made by Katie McGukian and Georgia Long. Overall a fantastic performance and a superb result, well done to this weeks “TEAM OF THE WEEK”!

1st VII v Framlingham

Result: Lost 29-10
Review:  The 1st Team battled bravely in their match versus Framlingham despite missing their 2 regular shooters. After the first quarter the team were down by a significant amount as they found it hard to settle with the new and unfamiliar combinations taking their time to gel. However they fought back admirably to draw the next 2 quarters, with some excellent defensive work by Captain Megan Powell, and some flair in the mid court by Ellie Mott Brown and Bryony Males. Unfortunately the team suffered another heavy loss in the fourth quarter finding it hard to score and this meant the overall score line did not flatter despite some encouraging netball being played by all.

3rd VII v Framlingham

Result: Lost 17-18

Review: After a shaky first quarter, the third team played superbly, driving into positions and finding the gaps to get the ball down to the shooters. Unfortunately, the third team lost by one goal, but held their heads high from the good quality netball that was played.

U15 A/B/C/D v Framlingham

U15 A
Result: Lost 15-8
Match report: It was a tough game played in difficult windy conditions and by the 2nd quarter Felsted had fallen behind with a score of 6-3. Felsted stayed in contention for the majority of the match but Framlingham proved clinical in the final quarter as they got ahead and earned an 8-15 victory.  Player of the match was Emily O'Connor for her outstanding defending and perseverance.

U15 B
Result: Lost 10-25
Match report: The U15 B team played Framlingham on saturday, having trained hard all week the team improved greatly but couldn't grasp the win! The score was 10-25. Well done girls!
Star Player: Annabel Dines and Phoebe Coulson

U15 C
Result: Lost 18-4
Review: The U15 C team had a tough match against Framlingham. We had conceded five goals in the first quarter and this threatened our confidence slightly. However, Georgia Rowe as WD made some great interceptions and Katie Lewis (GK) performed magnificently throughout the game as she prevented several goals from being scored. When Ellie Welsh came on as centre, she really utilised the space and Felsted had a lot more possession. The passing was great and resulted in three goals from Sophia Arthen. Shona Glover fought hard to press the attack but Framlingham were rather strong and scored several more goals. The team pulled together and there was some excellent play near the end of the match but unfortunately the game could not be retrieved

U15 D
Result: Won 20-8
Match report:The U15 D team had the only victory of the U15 squad against Framlingham. They played to win and made a great improvement throughout the game. The first quarter was a wake-up call as we ended it 5-3 down. Genevieve Guest made some excellent defensive intercepts as GK, which helped to threaten the confidence of their Goal Shooter. In the second quarter, the attacking pair of Eloise Kingsland and Shona Glover contributed to five goals.  Eloise had an excellent spatial awareness and used this to great advantage in the circle. Luca Goder (GD) stuck to her attacker like glue and made some great defensive clearances. In the second half, Felsted began to shine. With Jessy Wu (WA) using all the space of the centre, the ball made its way into the goal another seven times (thanks to some great shots from Shona Glover). She worked really well with Isabelle Lowe (C) and this pairing meant that Framlingham did not have much ball possession. Franca Lienke as GD and Genevieve fought hard in the Framlingham D and by the end of the match, we had only conceded eight goals. The girls worked really well as a team and it was a delight to watch such
good netball.

U14 B v Framlingham

Result: Won 11-6
Match report: The Under 14B went to Framlingham on Saturday, and although they put up a tough fight, we pulled through with a respectable win of 11-6.
The first quarter, we were on a level pegging but our shooters pulled through in the third quarter allowing us to lead by 4 goals. Player of the match - Annie Martine intercepted many of the Framlingham passes in her nippy wing position! Let's hope we can keep up our winning streak!

U14 A v Framlingham

Result: Lost 19-16
Match report: A cold and windy Framlingham saw the U14As suffer their first defeat of the season.  Framlingham started strongly, with excellent shooting and capitalising on the initial mistakes being made by Felsted.  The second and third quarters saw a bit of a comeback from Felsted but it was in the fourth that they really got into their stride and scores drew level.  However, in the last few minutes of the match Framlingham shooters once again capitalised on some excellent passing and pulled ahead again until the final whistle.
Felsted battled well but made some basic errors which Framlingham used to their benefit.  We will aim to eliminate these mistakes for future matches.

U15 A v RHS

Result: Won 27-20
Review: On Saturday 14th January the U15A's had their first netball fixture of the season against RHS Ipswich. After the first quarter of play Felsted were leading 9-3, which held them in good stead for the rest of the match. By the final whistle Felsted won 27-20 after a hard fought game from everyone, especially Gabby Doughty who was player of the match because of her near faultless shooting and fantastic link play with both the centre court players and her fellow shooting partner.

U14 C v RHS

Result: Won 29-2
Match report: A very encouraging start to the season for the U14C team. From the very beginning Georgia Wilson and Katie Cload linked up well and had racked up 8 goals already by the end of the first quarter. A pattern started to develop later on in the match where Felsted just kept getting the ball after the centre pass and it went straight in to the danger area for RHS. After half time RHS reassessed and brought on two subs who did well and scored two goals in fairly quick succession. However, Felsted were too strong for them and added 12 more goals over the final half. Overall an
excellent start – keep up the good work!

U14 B v RHS

Result: Won 32 - 1
Match report:On Saturday 14th, the Under 14 B's had their first away match at The Royal Hospital School. Spirits were high on the coach after a focused week of training and the team came out on court with intense determination. First quarter left us leading by 10 - 0 but our Captain, Hattie Botwright, warned of a team that might come back fighting in the second half. Some substitutions and a game plan for an attack of their weak spot left the squad with 32 - 1 victory. Man of the match was awarded to the two star shooters - Ellie Barham & Faye Ayodeji who managed to hit Miss Speights target of 30 goals! After some hot tea and scrummy sandwiches, the team departed feeling exhilerated and ready for the next match. An impressive start to the season - well done girls!
Star Player: Ellie Barham & Faye Ayodeji

U14 A v RHS

Result: 35 - 4
Match report: The first match of the season for Felsted got off to a fantastic start with an emphatic win against opponents RHS.  Felsted dominated from the start with shooters Tabby Carey and Caitlin Perrie working very well together and their shooting was on good form.  Felsted defence excelled themselves in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, denying their opponents any scoring chances.  The centre court players moved the ball smoothly down the court, resembling a team that have been playing together for a lot longer.
Felsted will now go on to their next match with their confidence and spirits high and will look to keep this going for the rest of the season.
